Relationship between the Rwanda Tennis Federation and Our Partners
The Rwanda Tennis Federation (RTF) operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Rwanda. As our principal collaborator, the Ministry of Sports has played a pivotal role in advancing our national tennis infrastructure. Over the years, this collaboration has been instrumental in the development of four internationally recognized tennis courts within the past two years, reflecting our shared commitment to elevating the standards of tennis in Rwanda.
In addition to our partnership with the Rwandan government, the RTF is an integral member of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT). Our engagement with CAT has facilitated numerous programs and training initiatives designed to enhance the competitive landscape of tennis across Africa. This cooperation also includes the successful hosting of regional tournaments, which serves to both elevate the profile of tennis within the continent and provide a platform for African players to gain international exposure.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is another key partner in our efforts to promote and develop tennis in Rwanda. Our longstanding relationship with the ITF has enabled us to host prestigious tournaments, including ATP Challenger events, making Rwanda the first Sub-Saharan country to achieve this milestone. Furthermore, our collaboration has extended to ITF Futures and International Junior tournaments, reinforcing our commitment to fostering talent from grassroots to professional levels. As a testament to our successful partnership, the ATP TOUR recently upgraded Rwanda Challenger from ATP 50 to ATP 75, reflecting our growing prominence in the global tennis community.
The Rwanda Tennis Federation partners with other tennis federations globally to advance the sport’s development. In line with this commitment, on May 30, the Rwanda Tennis Federation President, Theo Karenzi, and his French counterpart, Gilles Moretton, signed a memorandum of understanding. This agreement with the French Tennis Federation focuses on collaboration in various aspects of tennis development, highlighting the growing international cooperation aimed at enhancing tennis in Rwanda.

Our partnership with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Rwanda is also crucial in aligning our tennis development objectives with the broader goals of national sports promotion. This collaboration ensures that tennis remains a prominent and well-supported sport within the national sporting framework.
Overall, the synergy between the Rwanda Tennis Federation and these esteemed institutions—comprising the Ministry of Sports, CAT, ITF, and the National Olympic Committee—has been fundamental in advancing the sport of tennis in Rwanda. Through these collaborative efforts, we continue to build a robust tennis infrastructure, enhance player development, and elevate Rwanda’s standing in the global tennis arena.
