ITF Junior World Tour (J60) Wraps Up in Kigali with Spectacular Matches

The ITF Junior World Tour (J60) concluded today at Ecology Tennis Club in Kigali, marking the end of an exciting two-week event that ran from August 12th to 24th, 2024. Junior tennis players from around the world competed fiercely, with boys’ and girls’ categories featured in both singles and doubles events. The tournament showcased top-tier young talent in thrilling matches that kept tennis fans on the edge of their seats.

Week One Highlights
In the boys’ singles final of the first week, Canadian Jay Lin Gibson edged out Burundian player Allan Gatoto in a nail-biting match. Gibson triumphed with a score of 7-6, 7-5. On the girls’ side, Tunisian Nadine Hamrouni claimed victory after a hard-fought battle against Belgian Anouk Vandevelde, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

The doubles events were equally captivating. Burundi’s Allan Gatoto teamed up with Rwanda’s Junior Hakizumwami to secure the men’s doubles title. They overcame Polish duo Wiktor Jez and Juliusz Stanczyk in a close match, winning 7-6(5), 7-5. In the girls’ doubles, Spain’s Uxue Azurza Frade and Mexico’s Romina Dominguez Garcia outplayed Nadine Hamrouni and Anouk Vandevelde with a 6-4, 7-6(0) victory.

Week Two Highlights:
The second week was just as exhilarating, with Jay Lin Gibson continuing his winning streak. He once again clinched the boys’ singles title, defeating Poland’s Wiktor Jez in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Nadine Hamrouni was equally dominant, securing her second win in the girls’ singles final by beating Mexico’s Romina Dominguez Garcia 6-0, 6-2.

In the doubles, Gibson partnered with China’s Xiyuan Guo to win the boys’ doubles title, defeating Japanese Eiji Fujita and his Nigerian partner Mubarak Ganiyu Ayodei in a thrilling super tie-break 10-8, after splitting the first two sets 6-4 each. On the women’s side, Romina Dominguez Garcia and Uxue Azurza Frade continued their strong form, overcoming Hamrouni and Vandevelde once again. This time, they fought back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 in a gripping final.

 

The ITF Junior World Tour (J60) in Kigali provided incredible tennis action, and it’s clear the future of tennis is bright with such promising talent emerging from this tournament.
