JTI Summer Camps

The Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) is a grassroots development program endorsed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It is designed to introduce tennis to children, typically those under the age of 14, and serves as an entry point for young players who may be experiencing the sport for the first time. The program aims to promote tennis at a young age, identify talented players, and provide a pathway for those with potential to be nurtured and developed into competitive athletes. Through structured training, JTI seeks to grow participation in tennis while also contributing to the broader player development system in each country where it operates.

As part of our commitment to the Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) program, the Rwanda Tennis Federation organizes annual summer camps to bring the program’s goals to life. These camps serve as a practical platform to introduce tennis to children, many of whom are experiencing the sport for the first time. Each year, the summer camps attract over 100 young participants, offering them an engaging environment where they can learn the fundamentals of tennis under the guidance of skilled coaches. These camps play a vital role in putting the JTI program into action by helping to identify young talent and providing structured training to nurture their potential. Through this initiative, we ensure that the JTI’s mission of broadening tennis participation and discovering future stars is realized in a dynamic and hands-on manner.

Program Impact

The Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) is instrumental in introducing tennis to children for the very first time, serving as the foundational entry point for Rwanda’s future tennis stars. As an ITF-endorsed program, its primary goal is to provide young players under 14 with their first exposure to the sport, sparking an interest that often evolves into a lifelong passion. Through the Rwanda Tennis Federation’s active support, particularly the annual summer camps, this initiative not only helps discover hidden talent but also creates the ideal environment to nurture and develop those abilities. These camps allow coaches to identify promising young athletes, providing them with structured training and guidance. Ultimately, the JTI is where many Rwandan tennis players begin their journey, setting the stage for long-term player development and future success in national and international competitions.
